Be prepared for the final push for OGR challenge.

This race starts on 1st September 0:00 [UTC] and ends at 15th September 0:00 [UTC]. The team and user with the most credits in this period is the winner.

The goal of this race is to push the OGR project a bit to its final goal. Currently more than 90% are finished and we hope that the project will still finish in 2008. The OGR project searches for a optimal Golomb rulers of order 25.

We encourage each participant to enable only the cruncher application during the race and switch muon and evolution@home off. The race stats can be seen at BOINCstats.

To crunch or not to crunch?

To Crunch, or Not To Crunch: that is the question: Whether 'tis nobler to shutdown ones computer, or advance a scientific cause.

Is it altruism that motivates crunchers? Maybe it is scientific curiosity? Perhaps you have a personal interest in these projects? Does it mater which project you crunch for?

To better understand why people participate in BOINC projects, The Foundation for Computational Learning & Science is conducting a demographics survey.

Team founders should take care of their team

E-mail Print PDF

Beware! There have been some recent incidents on certin BOINC projects where users have requested the foundership of inactive teams in an effort to create super teams with very large credit. This topic is quite complex but there is a simple lesson to be learned here.

If you are the founder of a BOINC project team spread over several projects, there is a responsibility that goes with it. You have a responsibility to the team you created and to the people who joined your team. Its important for team founders to always check your email in case anyone tries to maliciously team over your team. If you fail to check your email and you neglect your team for several months, you should not expect your team and its members to be there for you when you come back at a later date in the future. PrimeGrid's Challenge Series: Lunar Landing, 18-20 July

E-mail Print PDF
PrimeGridPrimeGrid’s Challenge series continues with the Lunar Landing Challenge. Please come join us in commemorating the 39th Anniversary of the lunar landing by Apollo 11. A 3 day (72 hour) Challenge is being offered on PrimeGrid’s Prime Sierpinski Problem sieve application.

The first lunar landing, although accomplished by 'Buzz' Aldrin and Neil Armstrong, would not have been possible without the support of tens of thousands of people working in the background. The same can be said about prime finding and sieving. The prime finder gets the glory; yet it takes the support of all the sievers working in the background (image) to facilitate the finding of the prime. Read more about it here.

Team Boincstats.com is riding an all time high!

E-mail Print PDF
Boincstats.comDid you know that Boincstats.com has a team?. Well it does!, and its one of the top teams in the world. Besides keeping statistics on all BOINC projects, participants and having one of the busiest message boards around, BOINCstats recently passed the 100M mark in total team credit and is in sixth place in the PrimeGrid Challenge. More great news is that BOINCstats is currently in 15th place in the SIMAP Scramble, up from 43rd in just two months. I believe Top 10 ranking after this month's competition is over is within sight.

BAM!BOINCstats is ranked #51 among 75K+ teams and is approaching another milestone: 600 members, a goal that should be reached this month. BOINCstats also has a balanced presence and often top 20 ranking over a wide spectrum of BOINC projects. Thank you to Sid for this excelent report, Read more here.
